The American Film Theater series was conceived in the 1970s by producer Ely Landau. Landau's idea was to blend the two mediums, the stage play and the movie, by filming a number of great plays and them showing them a few times a week at a theater where tickets must be bought in advance, as they would be at a play. The series produced a number of excellent adaptations of classic plays, five of which are included in this set: THE ICEMAN COMETH, THE MAIDS, RHINOCEROS, BUTLEY, and LUTHER. Quite possibly one of the most misunderstood and unjustly maligned anime titles ever, UROTSUKIDOJI is traditionally shunned by those who haven't seen it because of its reputation for singlehandedly inventing the erotic horror hentai that prominently features tentacle monsters. While UROTSUKIDOJI may put the emphasis on sex sometimes, it is really one of the most imaginative and terrifying series available. UROTSUKIDOJI (The Wandering Kid) is the story of the Overfiend, a beast who comes along every 3,000 years to literally cause hell on Earth. The Overfiend resides inside the body of a man prior to his awakening, a man whom the brother and sister team of Amano and Megumi have found. Unfortunately, a legion of beasts are also looking for him, and this simple, horny 19 year-old has no idea that he will become the Overfiend. This boxed set includes the entire UROTSUKIDOJI saga: LEGEND OF THE OVERFIEND, LEGEND OF THE DEMON WOMB, RETURN OF THE OVERFIEND, and INFERNO ROAD.
